World Cup 2026 World Cup 2026
2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played from 11 June to 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico, and it will be the first World Cup with 48 teams. Australia qualified again and ended up in Group D together with the United States, Paraguay and Türkiye.

Australia open the tournament on 13 June against Türkiye in Vancouver, Canada. Their second match is probably the biggest one in the group, against the USA on 19 June in Seattle, where the atmosphere should be huge because the Americans are one of the hosts. The last group game is against Paraguay on 25 June in Santa Clara near San Francisco.

The Socceroos are considered competitive enough to fight for a place in the knockout stage. The USA are favourites in the group, while Australia, Türkiye and Paraguay are fairly close in level, so every point will matter. Australia’s style under recent tournaments has been very organised and physical, with a lot of discipline defensively and quick counterattacks.

In Australia all matches will be shown by SBS and SBS On Demand

The biggest favourites for the 2026 World Cup are France, Argentina, Brazil and England. France probably have the strongest squad overall, while Argentina come in as defending champions. Brazil are always dangerous because of their attacking talent, and England have one of the deepest squads in the tournament.

Spain and Germany are also considered serious contenders, while United States could surprise playing at home.

Australia are more outsiders than favourites, but they have a realistic chance to reach the knockout stage.
