The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played from 11 June to 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico, and it will be the first World Cup with 48 teams. Australia will play in Group D together with the United States, Paraguay and Türkiye.

Australia open the tournament on 13 June against Türkiye in Vancouver. Their second match is probably the biggest one in the group, against the USA on 19 June in Seattle, where the atmosphere should be huge because the Americans are one of the hosts. The last group game is against Paraguay on 25 June in Santa Clara.

Before the World Cup, Australia have two strong preparation matches lined up against Mexico and Switzerland.

The game against Mexico is especially interesting because Mexico are one of the World Cup hosts and usually play very aggressively with strong home support. It should be a good test of how Australia handle pressure and fast attacking football.

Switzerland are a different kind of opponent — very organised, disciplined and tactically strong. Australia often face teams with a similar style at major tournaments, so that match could be useful preparation for the group stage.
